Red Lion Bus Company has been providing daily school
bus transportation to York County Schools for over 60
years, with an outstanding safety record. Transportation
for school sports and educational field trips are also
an important component of these activities. Schools in
central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland request our
services for field trips each year.
Our fleet of over 100 school buses is maintained by
a staff of skilled technicians at our fully equipped
main maintenance facility. A national publication in
the industry recently cited our fleet maintenance program
as one of the top ten in the nation.
A continuous commitment to safety drives our program
to install optional equipment on school buses which is
permitted, but not required by an extensive body of school
bus regulations.
All buses are equipped with 2-way radios, and the capability
to operate an on-board video camera which records the
activities of the passengers for safety reasons.
All buses have the "Child Check-Mate" system
installed. This system requires the driver to walk to
the back of the bus after each school run to de-activate
the system. This enables the driver to detect a sleeping
student who may still be on the bus, or to find items
left behind by students.
We paint the hood of every school bus with a special "flat
black" paint to eliminate intense glare from bright
sunlight, which can be blinding to the driver.
Some buses which operate in areas which are prone to
visibility problems, such as fog, have strobe lights
installed on the roof which make the bus more visible
at a greater distance to other motorists.
We are currently in the process of installing an "exhaust
brake" on school bus engines, which provides additional
braking power from the engine automatically every time
the driver's foot is taken off of the throttle.
Our commitment to safety extends through school bus
driver training and driver incentives. Our staff of driver
trainers are certified by PennDOT, and have an outstanding
record of success in training driver applicants who complete
the testing and licensing process to become certified
school bus drivers. When drivers are placed on a regular
route assignment, a significant part of their pay is
in the form of incentives for safety and dependability.
We welcome inquiries from school districts concerning
opportunities for providing transportation under contract,
or doing educational field trips, or other school activity
trips.
