RLB presents School Bus Watch training
School bus drivers have an important role to play in the safety and security of our children and the entire community. Because they travel through neighborhoods on a daily basis, school bus drivers are in a position to be the first or perhaps the only person to notice significant changes, observe unusual behavior, or detect possible threats to safety and security.

That’s why RLB offers specialized training to recognize security hazards or unusual activities through the School Bus Watch program. This initiative, developed for the pupil transportation industry by the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT), the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPTS) and National School Transportation Association (NSTA), is a school bus-specific version of Highway Watch. It is funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

School Bus Watch was designed to:

  • educate school bus professionals about possible terrorist activity,
  • teach them how to identify, evaluate and report unusual activity, and
  • inform school bus drivers and support staff about security issues related to the school bus community.

School Bus Watch teaches school bus drivers how to evaluate situations on the bus, along the bus route, and at the bus stop. They are trained to report what they observe or experience with a sense of urgency in order to protect our children and our communities.

If drivers identify suspicious activities or situations, they are taught how and what to report. Local officials may act on the information, as well as pass it along to a centralized national location for analysis.
